Friendly Zone #5, summer of 2014. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A white inflatable house with an inscription \u201cFriendly Zone\u201d appeared in Kaunas neighborhood of \u017demieji \u0160an\u010diai. It popped up in the territory of the 19th century barracks playfully referred to as the \u201cWarehouses of Sauerkraut\u201d, during the months of July, August and September of 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The inflatable house is a platform for a cultural project \u201cMiesto tyrimai: vie\u0161umo patirtys. Draugi\u0161ka zona #5\u201c, continuing the research study of culture in \u017demieji \u0160an\u010diai that started in 2011. It includes the creation of the public space, where communication between people takes place, mutual connections are established, attempts are made to imagine a different everyday environment together and consider how abandoned territories in \u0160an\u010diai can become useful to people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This project aims at reviving the forgotten and abandoned territory of military barracks established in \u017demieji \u0160an\u010diai in the 19th century by increasing the contribution of people to the formation of their environment, creating new forms of self-organization, encouraging participation-based practice, and initiating new forms of creative expressions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Project participants, artists, urban theoreticians and cultural activists Auks\u0117 Petrulien\u0117, Darius Petrulis, Monika \u017daltauskait\u0117 Gra\u0161ien\u0117, Dionizas Bajar\u016bnas, Viktorija Rusinait\u0117, Arnoldas Stramskas, Kotryna Valiukevi\u010di\u016bt\u0117, Ed Carroll and Vita Gel\u016bnien\u0117 have been initiating dialogues with local people since 2011, as well as joint artistic projects, analysing, comparing and assessing the local problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMiesto tyrimai: vie\u0161umo patirtys. Draugi\u0161ka zona #5\u201d is a part of a project of culture and art called \u201cNematomos bendruomen\u0117s\u201d (Invisible Communities), initiated by Vytautas Magnus University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
